Assesino

25 x 20 x 2.5 in.

Acrylic, ink, watercolor paper, newspaper, glassine, acetate, resin, on deep-cradled wood panel

From the collection of Justin Corsbie and Allison Smith

The title "Assesino" is a reference to Trump's frequent attacks on Hispanic immigrants, whose presence he conflates with higher rates of crime in spite of data suggesting the opposite.

In this piece, his blanket characterization of them as undesirable and even dangerous individuals is lampooned by this symbol of Latin American exuberance and celebration. Beating on this metaphorical piñata scores points with the base, but the true "Assesino" may well be the one wielding the stick.
